Elvis is Alive ..................... as 8000 fans can testify

In the late 60's, more people watched Elvis Presley live than Neil Armstrong's first small step for man on the moon.

If that doesn't tell you how popular the King was the fact that more than 8000 turned up to see a dead rock star at the SECC says it all.

The idea of the concert was to beam out footage of the King - from classic shows such as Aloha From Hawaii and his '68 Comeback Special plus previously unseen footage - up on a gigantic plasma screen as his old band from the Vegas years played live.

Classic hits like Hound Dog, Are You Lonesome Tonight and Suspicious Minds blasted out across the auditorium - backed by the original Sweet Inspirations, The Stamps and the TCB band.  They may have gained a few years - and pounds - but you had to applaud their polished performance.

Elvis Impersonators danced up and down the aisles during what was an eerie, bizarre and emotional experience.  Every time you looked down from the huge screen you half-expected to see the King looking across at you.

Old favourites like Blue Suede Shoes and That's Alright Mama had young fans in the audience storming the front of the stage, oblivious to the fact that their hero had been dead for 25 years.  And as Elvis left the building to the sounds of Can't Help Falling In Love, you couldn't help but feel you had seen something magical.

Whatever you think about Elvis' lifestyle, forget it - what he should be remembered for is the fact he and his music brings out the best in the many people who have come to love him.
